First Look
AOA released a nice set of airframe stencils and markings for the A-6 Intruder family over two years ago, but that set had been replaced with an improved release. This set now includes specific markings differences for the A-6B which was not covered in the previous release.
The instructions walk you through the differences in stenciling between the A-6A, A-6B, KA-6D, A-6E, and A-6E TRAM variants as well as the differences with aircraft equipped with:
- GRU-5 versus GRU-7 ejection seats
- ALE-18 versus ALE-29A chaff systems
- ALR-15 versus APR-25 versus APR-45 radar warning systems
These decals are printed by Cartograf and feature nicely legible stencils and the variations of markings that have appeared in the life of the aircraft. This set will work on the Trumpeter kits which are improvements over the kit decals and will also allow you to use other AOA Intruder decals for the A-6 to render a second (or more) model. This is one set where you'll want several copies stashed away for future A-6 projects!
