First Look
Afterburner Decals produces some of the nicest aftermarket decals in the industry and this latest release is no exception. In this installment 'Snakes on a Plane', we have four different F/A-18C Hornets from VFA-86, the Sidewinders, and the CAG's mount can be portrayed as it appeared in 2006 or 2007.
Something of interest to Hornet modelers is aircraft 415, this the the unique three-gray camouflage scheme that was previously released by another decal company, but they neglected to ever produce the color profile needed to replicate that aircraft. Afterburner not only has the correct markings for this unique Hornet, they also provide the requisite four-view color profile.
The examples presented here include:
- F/A-18C, 165200, VFA-86, AB/400, USS Enterprise, CAG, 2006
- F/A-18C, 165200, VFA-86, AB/400, USS Enterprise, CAG, 2007
- F/A-18C, 165201, VFA-86, AB/401, USS Enterprise, CO, 2007
- F/A-18C, 165197, VFA-86, AB/412, USS Enterprise, 2007
- F/A-18C, 163459, VFA-86, AB/415, USS Enterprise, 2004
This decal set provides you with the sufficient stencils and markings to replicate two of these aircraft. If you look over the decal sheet, you can see that this set is complete with the names of the flight crews and maintainers.
If you're looking for a nice subject for your next Hornet project, this is the right set to get you there.
My sincere thanks to Afterburner Decals for this review sample!
