First Look
Afterburner Decals has turned out some impressive decal releases covering contemporary US subjects and this another that is worth having for your next 'Mud Hen' (Strike Eagle) project. These markings were sized for Revell's excellent 1/48 scale kit of the F-15, which remains the best in this scale and is second only to Tamiya's F-15E in 1/32 scale.
This set covers the four different commander's aircraft betwwen 2003 and 2008 from the 366 Fighter Wing at Mountain Home AB, Idaho. Actually, you'll notice that the 2003 markings are for the 366 Wing (not Fighter Wing) when it was an operational experiment to create a deployable 'Super Wing' that had its own assigned fighters, fighter-bombers, bombers (the B-1B) and tankers. The four examples included here are:
- F-15E, 87-0210, MO, 366 WG, Wing CC's aircraft, Mt Home AFB, ID, 2003
- F-15E, 90-0249, MO, 366 OG, Op Group CC's aircraft, Bagram AB, Afghanistan, 2007
- F-15E, 90-0227, MO, 366 FW, Wing CC's aircraft, Mt Home AFB, ID, 2008
- F-15E, 90-0245, MO, 12 AF, 12th Air Force CC's aircraft, Mt Home AFB, ID, 2008
This set provides sufficient stencils and markings to render two complete aircraft of your choice.
My sincere thanks to Afterburner Decals for this review sample!
