First Look
Afterburner Decals is a relatively new producer of aftermarket markings for a variety of contemporary subjects. They may be relatively new, but they're doing some great work. Check out this one:
East Coast Demo Eagles - these are five 1st Fighter Wing F-15C Eagles that have been used in a variety of airshows on the east coast of the United States over the last several years. These include two aircraft out of the 94th FS (blue squadron) and three out of the 71st FS (red squadron). You'll note that we don't have representation here from the 27th FS (yellow squadron) as they've transitioned out of the F-15 and are the first at Langley in the F-22 Raptor. They'll get plenty of airshow time themselves.
The five aircraft presented in this decal set are:
- F-15C, 81-020, 94 FS/1 FW, 2005 season primary
- F-15C, 81-041, 94 FS/1 FW, 2004 season spare
- F-15C, 84-025, 71 FS/1 FW, 2004-mid 2005 primary, late 2005 spare, double MiG killer
- F-15C, 81-022, 71 FS/1 FW, 2003-2004 season primary, 2005 spare
- F-15C, 81-036, 71 FS/1 FW, 2005 spare
As you can see in the decal layout, this set provides a nice array of maintenance stencils in addition to the national markings and distinctive unit markings. In fact, Afterburner Decals provide sufficient markings for two complete aircraft.
Time to dust off that Hasegawa, Academy, or Monogram 1/48 F-15C kit. This set is definitely recommended for the Eagle lover!
My sincere thanks to Afterburner Decals for this review sample!
