The Build

As a child of the '60s I loved watching the Jetsons, and I still watch the show on DVD. Polar light has re-issued this kit with only minor changes. Where the first release included the entire Jetson family, this release includes George and Astro in very nice pre finished vinyl.

The kit comes 11 parts molded in a very nice lime green and six crystal clear parts. The entire kit has only 17 parts along with the two vinyl figures.

Polar lights have done a great job depicting a vehicle that in the cartoon was mostly a few strokes of an artist's pen. The first thing you see when opening the box is the lovely pre-finished vinyl figures and the parts molded in a striking lime green. The molding of the parts is very nice with almost non- existent flash. The green parts have a very glossy finish and the clear parts are scratch free.

The model goes together in just a few minutes. I timed myself, and including cutting parts loose and cleaning up minimal flash and pour stubs, I was done with the build in 15 minutes. The builder will need to do a little sanding on the left and right propulsion unit halves (parts #4, 5, 6 & 7) as they do not readily fit into their locating slots once assembled. I took an emery file and sanded down the tangs on the locator tabs and the propulsion units went right in.

The kit comes with a nice planetoid shaped base molded in clear, with the Jetsons logo molded in.

The instructions give painting ideas, but the Capsule Car seems to change colors in every scene I watch. So, it's up to the builder to pick the colors. The kit looks very nice unpainted, I think I'll go back and paint the interior, but the molded plastic of the rest of the model looks pretty nice as-is.

This was a very fun build, and makes a very pleasing display model. A beginner could do this one in an hour or less and have a great looking model.

Highly recommended!

My sincere thanks to Round 2 Models for this review sample!
