Build Review
For a look at the kit out of the box, look here.
I recently built two of these nice kits, one for a friend, and one for me. Despite the size of the kit, the build goes very quickly (I spent three days on each one) The kit comes well protected in plastic wrap and paper around all the large well molded parts.
The kit is molded in a highly polished grey styrene with clear parts for the core. The landing gear is poseable and has a cleverly designed locking mechanism to hold it either in the up or down position. The kit also includes the landing pillar in either an up or down position. The rotating engine/fusion core is well molded with a thin plastic framework and clear segments in case the modeler wishes to include lighting.
Metallic paint might sound like a chore, but I used Tamiya rattle can Silver Plate and got a great finish with no grief. I love these Tamiya acrylic lacquers, they dry in minutes and provide a great finish. Just make sure you wash all parts carefully to remove mold release oils.
My only complaint/wish was that the kit came with some crew figures...but that's pretty minor.
If you have a weekend , you can have a great looking C-57D!
