The Kit

Here is another of HobbyBoss' easy-build kits and as you saw in the kit's first-look, it had no obvious problems that might make this any less than a quick and fun project. After I published that article, I received a few emails pointing out that the box art and some online photos had depicted the kit with the supercharger bulges under the cowls being put erroneously on the top of the cowls. Sure enough, the instructions and color profiles show the bulges on the bottom of the cowling (correct) and the box art with them atop of the cowlings. Since the cowlings are keyed to prevent such errors, I had to take a closer look.

The fuselage top and bottom halves have the wing and horizontal stabilizers molded as part of the subassemblies making the build even easier. The cockpit (simple) goes in the lower half of the nose, then the upper and lower halves go together. The underwing engine fairings fit snugly under the wings and can only go on the model one way without lots of problems. The cowlings themselves are indeed keyed, but the left is keyed opposite of the right meaning that you can easily put the supercharger bulges on top of you wanted to with no other assembly problems. The good news is that they also go into the correct position with equal ease. Simply test fit the cowlings and you'll see quickly how they should be installed. There are no fit problems and only the hint of a fuselage seamline that will need to be sanded smooth before painting.

You can see in the photos of the completed model that there is no paint or filler used, so you can see how well this kit goes together without effort. If you're looking for a quick and relaxing project, this is another good choice from HobbyBoss. Definitely recommended!

My sincere thanks to Squadron Mail Order for this review sample!
