First Look
Mig Productions has been around for several years offering numerous products to make modelers lives easier.
The subject for review this time is the pre-mixed "Dark Wash". Also covered in this review is Mig Productions "Thinner for Washes".
While some may ask as to why you would buy pre-made washes when they can easily be made up yourself, let me just say that the convenience of having this readymade product, for me at least, is worth the time savings alone. A quick shake of the bottle and you are ready to go, and it is consistent from batch to batch, time and time again.
I have found that this product works well over a satin finish. I use Vallejo Satin Varnish to protect my base paint. The satin surface helps the wash flow around all of the raised details and helps it settle into all of the nooks and crevices.
The product also works over the Tamiya flat finishes if you pre-wet the surface with clean thinner, such as the Mig Productions Thinner. Keep a brush damp with thinner so that you can prevent any tide marks from forming.
I tried the "Thinner for Washes" with standard artist oil paints and found that once I got the dilution right, there was no noticeable difference between the products.
For me, the convenience of having the readymade product on the work bench is worth the very slight increase in price of mixing my own wash up.
My sincere thanks to Mig Productions for these review samples!
