First Look

Ammo by Mig Jimenez is family of paints and weathering products designed to take your models to the next step. Master modeler Mig Jimenez helped to launch another paint line by developing and teaching modelers how to make achieve great results with those products. A few years ago, he created his own company and developed a new series of products to tackle areas overlooked by other paint companies.

In this release, they have created the pallete of oil-based colors, each contained it a clear bottle not much larger than a make-up bottle. In fact, the black cap has a fine paint brush attached to apply the oil paint to your subject(s). There are currently 21 colors available which include:

  • A.Mig-3500 Black
  • A.Mig-3501 White
  • A.Mig-3502 Ammo Yellow
  • A.Mig-3503 Red
  • A.Mig-3504 Dark Blue
  • A.Mig-3505 Olive Green
  • A.Mig-3506 Field Green
  • A.Mig-3507 Dark Green
  • A.Mig-3508 Red
  • A.Mig-3509 Medium Gray
  • A.Mig-3510 Rust
  • A.Mig-3511 Red Primer
  • A.Mig-3512 Dark Brown
  • A.Mig-3513 Starship Filth
  • A.Mig-3514 Earth
  • A.Mig-3515 Ochre
  • A.Mig-3516 Dust
  • A.Mig-3517 Buff
  • A.Mig-3518 Sunny Flesh
  • A.Mig-3519 Light Flesh
  • A.Mig-3520 Basic Flesh

While many of us are accustomed to using tubes of artist oils for painting figures or creating filters for our camouflaged subjects, these paints eliminate the need for mixing and cleaning up these colors by providing these oils in a consistent mixture which can be applied and blended as needed.

In addition to these new paints, Ammo by Mig Jimenez has also released a new magazine which covers the uses for these paints which we will examine shortly. In the meantime, if you're looking for an alternative to standard tube-based oil paints, give these a try!

My sincere thanks to Ammo by Mig Jimenez for this review samples!
