First Look
Over the years, we've seen some interesting 1/35 scale diorama kits including the ceramic and resin buildings from VLS Productions and the array of vacuformed and styrene buildings from MiniArt. Plusmodel has likewise produced some nice building sets including this resin, photo-etch and ceramic farmhouse.
In this latest release, Plusmodel has made use of modern technology to produce this Farmhouse. The base is still ceramic (plaster of Paris) but look at the rest of the parts - those are laser-cut wood parts to replicate the look of the upper story and roof. What better way to replicate wood than to use wood? The set also has pre-cut wood shapes and two resin parts to replicate the pulley over the loft door. The layout and material quality is very nice.
The instructions walk you through the assembly process and while the doors are all positioned closed, it wouldn't take much effort to scratchbuild the upper floor and add interior details to the upper and lower levels to depict a scene with a farming family or soldiers passing through. The rear of this building front is closed off by die-cut card stock which doubles as the structural frame for the second floor and roof joists. A careful modeler can cut open the non-structural areas to allow for viewing of any interior details and figures you add to create your diorama or vignette. The possibilities are only limited by your imagination. You can purchase this farmhouse directly from Plus Model.
My sincere thanks to Plus Model for this review sample!
