First Look
The USS Cole is an Arleigh Burke-class Aegis-equipped guided missile destroyer home ported in NS Norfolk, Virginia. The Cole is named in honor of Marine Sergeant Darrell S. Cole, a machine gunner killed in action on Iwo Jima on 19 February 1945. The ship was built by Ingalis Shipbuilding and was delivered to the Navy on March 11 1996.
On 12 October 2000, the Cole was attacked by Al-Qaeda terrorists who committed a suicide attack in the Yemeni port of Aden: seventeen sailors were killed and thirty-nine were injured.
The HobbyBoss USS Cole kit consists of 146 well molded plastic parts. Also included are 2 sheets of photo etch detail parts. All railing is included in photo etch. One SH-60B Helicopter is also included. Decals are well printed and in perfect registration. The ship can be built either as a full hull model or as a water line kit. Molded detail is great and seam lines are minimal. Cleanup will be quick and easy. Painting instructions are provided on a full color sheet.
