First Look
The Sd.Kfz.10 was one of Germany's many half-track designs that were developed to operate over the less-than-ideal terrain of Europe, especially in snow and mud. While initially used to tow artillery around the battlefield, the type was also modified to operate as a platform for a variety of guns to provide self-propelled mobility for greater operational flexibility.
Ace has released this 1/72nd scale kit of the Sd.Kfz.10 as a mobile gun platform for the 37mm anti-tank guns. Like the real subject, this kit consists of two kits: the half-track and the towed gun. And like the real subject, the kit accurately depicts how the gun was simply dropped into the cargo bed while the crew cab was up-armored and a special armor plate was added up-front to protect the engine and radiator from small arms fire. Where the gun in the towed position would have to be unhitched, man-handled into position, wait for a target to come along, then fire, this mobile gun platform could drive into a target area with the driver pointing the vehicle in the general direction of a target, and the crew in the back can get their shot off before the vehicle scoots off to another target.
The kit provides the basic half-track and PaK gun with mount, adds the armored cab, ammo storage box, front armored plate, and your choice of two types of gun shield for the PaK. the detailing is nice and will provide a good starting point for a super-detailed model. The kit comes with two frets of photo-etch to get you close to that ideal look.
This looks like a nice little kit and will provide a nice modeling project.
