First Look
Academy has released a new entry-level modeler's kit with this 1/72 scale KAI T-50 Golden Eagle snap model. At 25 parts, this is indeed a simple model which doesn't require glue or painting to build. The kit is molded in styrene and presented four parts trees (two in white, one in black, and one clear, plus a separate canopy).
The kit doesn't have landing gear provided, it is designed for gear-up display on a clear stand that is included. The kit also doesn't provide waterslide decals which might be troublesome for younger modelers, so a set of stick-on markings are provided instead. A single subject is rendered which is the one depicted on this kit box.
The surface detailing is nicely done and some T-50 modelers may opt to superdetail this model and add landing gear from an F-16 donor kit as well as bring the model up to FA-50 configuration with AIM-9/AIM-120 on the wingtip rails and a variety of stores options under the wings.
Have some fun and get your child into the modeling world with this nice kit!
My sincere thanks to MRC for this review sample!
