First Look
SBS Model produces an impressive array of aftermarket detail sets for a variety of popular kits and subjects. Their online store is nicely laid out to show the variety of cockpits, propeller sets, ejection seats, and more that are available directly from their site.
This release is an impressive enhancement to the Revell's 1/72 F-4E/F Phantom II kit. This set has some amazing detail that you'd usually see in larger scales. There are 16 resin parts for the cockpit starting with a new cockpit tub complete with sidewalls, new instrument panels, front panel coming, Martin Baker ejection seats, and various small parts to round out the set. The ejection seats have shoulder harnesses, lap belts, and various other fittings all nicely cast into the parts and ready for some detail painting.
On the photo-etch side, you have canopy bow caps, interior sills/frames for the front and rear canopies, a new plate for the fuselage canopy sill, ejection seat curtain actuator handles, center pull handles, and leg restraint straps. There are details here that I don't see in larger scales! Last but not least, there are several instrument panel layouts depending on whether you're depicting the F-4E or the Luftwaffe F-4F.
There is some amazing detail in this set and will definitely enhance the front offices of your next 1/72 Revell F-4E or F-4F project.
You can obtain SBS Model's detail sets directly from the SBS Model website.
My sincere thanks to SBS Model for this review sample!
