First Look
MiniArt has produced two trolley cars and is slowly growing the railroad side of their catalog. Where the trolley kits provideda base with the track molded (vacuformed) into the cobblestone street, this set provides you with other display options.
This kit is molded in gray styrene and presented on eight parts trees (duplicate trees not shown). If you put both rail sections together, you can have a 13.5 inch run of track. What is nice about this set is that the railroad ties, rails, joins, and half of the hold-down brackets are all molded separately so you can paint and weather these parts individually before assembling, mounting them on a surface, and then blending them into the scene you wish to depict. The bumper stop is also nicely set up to mount atop of the rails with a wooden beam at the height of the European rail car bumpers.
Sets like these are handy whether you want to display a railroad car or locomotive, or not. Since rails make an interesting backdrop, you can put these into your display groundwork to depict your tank, vehicle, and/or figures crossing or examining the rail line.
This is a great set and I hope MiniArt will consider producing WWII era rolling stock in 1/35 scale.
