Master Details has turned out their third release, this time providing an update for the Tamiya 1/32 F-4C/D Phantom II kit. The F-4D received an upgraded radar warning receiver later in its operational life in the form of the ALR-69, which provided significantly improved threat situational awareness for the crew, but required the installation of a number of antennas on the airframe. The undernose pod of the F-4D became the mount for six antennas alone, which resulted in the less-than-flattering nick-name of 'herpes mod'.
This Master Details set consists of four resin parts cast in white resin. These are two alternative parts for the nose, a new parabrake chute door, and a new TACAN antenna.
In the case of the nose, you have your choice of replacing the kit radome with the solid resin part, or using the kit's radome and installing the chin fairing also provided.
The set also includes a set of decals to provide the updated stenciling used after this modification.
The instructions clearly show where everything goes and are nicely rendered.
Considering the quality of these castings and additional stenciling, an MSRP of less than $13, this is quite a bargain!
My sincere thanks to Master Details (http://www.masterdetails.com) for this review sample!
