If you haven't visited the Cobra Company website recently, you haven't seen the interesting research (and fun) that Chris Miller has been doing - he has restored a full-scale OV-1 Mohawk nose! So when you look at a resin detail set for the Mohawk cockpit, you'll see that this was a labor of love as well!
This set is designed for the 1/48 scale OV-1 Mohawk kit released by Roden earlier in 2005. When the Mohawk was configured for night photo-reconnaissance, it needed flash cartridges to illuminate the terrain below for the cameras. To do this, two pods were mounted atop the wing at the wing root, against the fuselage. The trailing edge of the pods extended past the trailing edge of the flaps. These pods could be mounted and removed as required by the mission.
As illumination technology changed, these pods were used for anti-missile protection and in many cases were modified to carry more flares. The instructions clearly show the installation location of the pods and this is an easy modification!
As the instructions say, this conversion is simple as it mounts just like the kit's pod.
This set is definitely recommended for the Mohawk modeler! This detail set is available directly from Cobra Company (www.cobracompany.com).
My sincere thanks to Cobra Company (www.cobracompany.com) for this review sample!
