First Look

Attack Squadron from Poland produces some impressive resin kits, details, and conversions. One of their focus areas has been the C-130 Hercules in 1/48 and 1/72 scales with previous releases providing much-needed engine nacelle corrections, wheel well sponson correction for the APU version, KC-130 refueling pods, and even the Harvest Hawk KC-130J armed tanker conversion. Most of these are available in 1/48 and 1/72 scale, and all tooled for the Italeri and Testors C-130 kits.

C-130 Hercules Extended Flaps

Here is one of their latest releases, the extended flap set. The stock Italeri/Testors kit depicts the flaps up which is fine, but you can see in the image above just how much detail would be required in those flap wells as well as on the flaps themselves should you wish to depict the aircraft with the flaps extended. The C-130 is equipped with Fowler flaps, which means that the flaps slide aft before they start down into the airstream. Dropping the flaps like a Spitfire might work, but it would be very wrong.

Attack Squadron has renderd the flap wells in two sections per side with all of that nice detail ready for paint. Converting the kit to use this set is very simple and straightforward. The corresponding flaps are ready to be placed in whatever flap position you choose. While this set is a bit pricey, the parts are sizeable and without warpage, and the set is the best (and only) solution for detailed flaps and flap wells on the market. Whether you're building the Testors or Italeri boxing of the 1/48 AC-130A, DC-130A, C-130E, C-130H, or C-130J, or a variation thereof, this is the detail you're looking for.
