First Look
MAW-Decals has released a new set of decals, this one providing more detailed formation lights than have been provided on other sheets in the past. This decal set is designed with multiple layers, and while I'm not a big fan of decals printed as separate layers, this particular process allows for the frames of the formation lights to be printed with finer lines without the traditional registration problems what would arise under these circumstances. You'll also see thicker black lines representing the NVG-compatible lighting that is now part of these formation "slime light" systems. These too are printed separately allowing you to replicate an aircraft with older slime light formation lights, or the newer dual-capable lighting.
The aircraft covered in this set are:
- F-4 Phantom II
- F/A-18 Hornet
- A-6E/EA-6A Intruder
- AV-8B Harrier II
- AH-1W Super Cobra
- UH-1N Twin Huey
- CH-53 Sea Stallion
- CH-46 Sea Knight
The instructions show you which decals to place where, especially since some of these lights are conformal over wingtips and curved surfaces.
These markings will provide some very distinctive details to your Marine Air Wing aircraft and may be adaptable to other subjects as well. This set is definitely recommended!
