First Look
Afterburner Decals continues to turn out some impressive decal releases covering contemporary US subjects and this latest set is no exception. This set is tailored to fit the Testors/Italeri boxings of the 1/48 SR-71A kit. With this release, Afterburner Decals has produced the first of two sets covering the Blackbird and here we have eleven examples of the aircraft near the end of its operational life including one example flown by NASA.
The examples presented here include:
- SR-71A, 61-7980, April 1986
- SR-71A, 61-7980, 1990
- SR-71A, 61-7962, 1990
- SR-71A, 61-7972, 1990
- SR-71A, 61-7967, 1997
- SR-71A, 61-7971, NASA, 1993
- SR-71A, 61-7973, 1985
- SR-71A, 61-7968, 1989
- SR-71A, 61-7979, 1990
- SR-71A, 61-7962, 1990
- SR-71A, 61-7958, 1990
You'll note that 61-7980 is repeated twice, once in the markings from 1986 and again with its markings circa 1990. This release provides sufficient markings and airframe stencils to replicate any two aircraft subjects.
This is another great decal superset from Afterburner Decals and will provide you with lots of interesting options for your next SR-71 project.
My sincere thanks to Afterburner Decals for this review sample!
